What's interesting in technology?

So I've been reading through various reports from the O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference and I have to ask, where's the interesting technology? It seems the only thing I hear about revolves around social software which is something that just doesn't seem that new to me. Is there anything interesting going on in technology right now? In the last couple years Apple had been a good source of excitement, but even there the last few months have been unusually uneventful. There haven't even been any good rumors floating around lately. Slashdot used to be a good source of interesting stuff, but now it has just turned into one big "your rights online" fest, though this is kind of interesting.

I admit it, I'm a technology thrill seeker and I'm completely bored to death. This should be evident from the level of posting I've been doing in the last few months. There's just nothing to write about. I'm also seeing a similar trend around the other blogs that I read. Post rates seem to be slowing down and content seems like it's getting weaker. Obviously not a scientific analysis, but whatever. Has anyone else noticed this?

A couple years ago I wrote a post about how boring tech had gotten. Well ... it's gotten even worse now. You'd think I'd be used to it by now. As B.B. King would say "the thrill is gone". Of course the fact my major expertise is XML technology doesn't help much. It shouldn't come as a surprise that XML is about as boring as you can get, no really it is.
