Digital Rebel Hack No. 1 - Extended eyecup
When I shoot sports I try to keep both eyes open so that I can see what's happening in the game. I found it was kind of difficult with the eyepiece on the Canon Digital Rebel as it allowed too much light in from the sides. I thought maybe getting an eyecup that more completely covered the eye would be a possible solution. Unfortunately no one I talked to knew anything about such a beast for the Rebel. While in the local shop, I threw out the idea that an eyecup from a different brand might fit, so we tried a couple different ones and found one that actually works. It's a store brand, but I'm sure they just source if from a supplier that sends this kind of thing to many shops. The part number is DL-0126P and it's labeled Eye Cup-f/Maxxum. It cost $9.95 in the local shop. It fits the Digital Rebel like it was made for it, also fits just fine on the 10D. Here's a picture with it installed on the Rebel.
After getting it I wasn't sure I really liked it, but after switching back and forth with the standard eyepiece I definitely prefer the deeper eyecup and it now lives full time on my 10D.
