Sleepycat Berkeley DB XML 2.0

Sleepycat has released version 2.0 of the Berkeley DB XML native XML database system. This is a major update that adds XQuery and XPath 2.0 support based on the July draft specifications. Other notable changes include better support for larger documents and a brand new PHP API. It of course includes updated Python, Java and Perl APIs as well. I'm hoping a C# API that works with Mono will come in the future.

They've also published a new white paper titled "Anatomy of a Native XML Database". It takes a look at some of the issues involved in storing XML data and provides a little more technical detail than most vendor whitepapers. It's worth a read if you're interested in storing XML data.
