Why is Syncato kind of hard to install?Syncato was originally developed to power the Inspirational Technology website and as an experiment in the usage of Berkeley DB XML for a real project. It was not originally intended to be released for others to use. Syncato itself is actually very small and easy to install, it's simply the list of other required software that can be daunting. This list of tools was selected because it is extremely powerful and easy to develop with, ease of installation was a minor concern. In reality the set of packages is not much harder to install then the typical LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PERL/Python/PHP) type system would be if you installed everything from scratch. It's simply that the typical Linux system will already have those packages installed since they're established technologies. Syncato is showing off a set of new tools (some bleeding edge) and providing a different perspective on how web based applications can be constructed. The system will get easier to install over time and other options will emerge for users who don't want to tackle the list of required packages. Hopefully the power of the system is enough to make the few hours required to get the initial pieces in place worthwhile.
