iTunes VideoSo Apple realy did release an iPod Video. It looks nice, but the more significant thing to me is the ability to buy TV shows from the music store. I'm one of those people who pretty much never watches TV, it's not that I don't like TV it's just that my life doesn't revolve around it. However, even though I almost never watch TV I've become rather enamoured with the TV shows on DVD movement. I don't really care much about the DVD, so the idea of being able to buy individual episodes online is pretty compelling. All very exciting except for one MASSIVE PROBLEM, the quality of the shows you can buy is less than optimal. For your $1.99 you get 320x240 video which I'm sure is great on that lovely new iPod screen, but on a 20" Cinema Display you get something not much larger than a postage stamp. I bought the pilot episode of Lost to see how this works and it's both disappointing and surprisingly workable at the same time. Quicktime is able to scale the video far better than I was expecting, but it's still really disappointing that the resolution is so low. It would have been really nice to see at least 640x480 video.
