Silence

This past week was family week. Both good and bad. On Friday we celebrated the first birthday of my great niece Ashley and then on Sunday suffered the death of my Grandmother. Last Christmas we had five generations of our family together, now there will only be four.

It was quite amazing that my grandmother lived as long as she did. I'm not exactly sure how old she was, either 95 or 96. But I'm quite sure she never expected to see great-great grandchildren and I'm happy that at least some of those children will be able to remember having known her. Ashley and her cousin Angelina are too young, but Ashley's sisters Alexis and Taylor will remember, as will her great grandchildren Tisha, Tiffany, Amber, Shelby and Jalen.

I never met any of my great-great grandparents and other then my grandmother barely met any of my grandparents. It just makes me hope the children now realize how lucky they are to have met her and to know her as well as they did. They all lived on the same street and were fortunate enough to be able to spend much more time together then most families.

My grandmother was a great woman. As so often happens, I didn't spend enough time with her in the last few years. I was able to say a few final things to her before she died, but wanted to add a public statement of thanks for all she brought to the lives of everyone who knew her.

Helen Staples or GaGa as we've always known you, thank you, I loved you and you will be missed.
