Comment spam blacklist effectiveness?

I've been working on comment spam blocking via blacklists for Syncato and have the basics working pretty well. I got to wondering though, how effective is it proving to be for people who've implemented it on other systems? Also is anyone aware of a central repository of blacklist URLs? I know of a few individual sites that make their lists public.
