MacBook notes

A few things to note about the new Apple MacBook Pro compared to the current 15" PowerBooks.

  • Built in iSight
  • It has a larger display, but fewer overall pixels. The Powerbook has a 15.2" display at 1440x960 resolution, the MacBook is 15.4" at 1440x900
  • One Firewire 400 port but no Firewire 800
  • It's thinner than the current 15", 1" vs. 1.1".
  • It's slightly larger overall, 14.1"x9.6" vs. 13.7x9.5"
  • Same weight
  • Better video card, with up to 256MB RAM in 1.83Ghz model
  • No internal modem

Overall with the dual core CPU in a system roughly the same size as the current 15" Powerbook this may be a must have machine. If you can run Windows and Intel based Linux on the thing it will be by far the most powerful laptop you can own. Apple already has a huge presence in the geek community, this machine should be powerful ammunition to convert the remaining hold outs.
