Xperanto IBM has released a white paper on Xperanto. This is their XQuery based system for querying existing relational data as XML. What I'm curious about is if this is the new XML support for DB2 that has been reported to be coming. If it is, I'm very disappointed. While this is a mildly interesting approach, it definitely isn't revolutionary. It also has one massive flaw, it's query only. This means any real application still has to drop back to relational techniques for inserting and updating data. That presents a nasty proposition to developers as it means learning two completely different data models and two completely different query languages. I was expecting something a little more seamless that allowed you to stay in the XML domain when building an application. 1:26:09 AM
